The Statement on Superintelligence calls for a halt to the development of AI smarter than humans, until scientists agree it can be done safely and the public has had its say. Its signatories include Nobel laureates and AI pioneers such as Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio. Every new signature adds pressure:

Write to your elected representatives

Politicians read their email, and the number of messages on an issue shapes how important it feels to them. Here is a ready-made email to start from. Rewriting it in your own words carries more weight:

Hello, I am one of your constituents, and I am increasingly worried about how fast AI development is moving. The leaders of the major AI companies now warn that we risk losing control, and Nobel laureates such as Geoffrey Hinton are calling for a halt to the development of superintelligence. So I want to ask: what is your plan if development continues at this pace? How are you preparing for rapid changes in the labour market, and do you support international agreements that regulate the most powerful AI systems? Your answer will decide how I vote next time.
